Giving to culture
Until recently, data on “giving to culture” by Flemish households and companies was very scarce. With this study, IDEA Consult has filled this knowledge gap by mapping the giving behavior of households and companies to the arts and culture. We have run a large-scale survey with 1.000 households in Flanders to analyse their motives to donate to the arts and culture, the amounts they donate and the importance of fiscal incentives to donate. We have also cooperated with the Flemish cultural sector to learn more about their interaction with philanthropists. Finally, we have clarified the legal and fiscal framework of “giving to culture”, from the perspective of both the philanthropist and the cultural organization.
