Family-owned heritage houses: European research on the socio-economic impact and use of innovative business models

In the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, the European Commission (DG EAC) has commissioned IDEA Consult and its project partners European Landowners’ Organisation (ELO) (lead partner), European Historic Houses Association (EHHA) and K&DM to research the socio-economic impact of family-owned heritage houses in Europe and how they contribute to European policy objectives in the fields of innovation, social cohesion, education, youth and intercultural dialogue. The study also highlights the challenges that private owners face to maintain the heritage in a sustainable manner. It also looks into how innovative business models can help to overcome some of these challenges and as such increase the socio-economic impact of family-owned heritage in Europe.
