Els Van de Velde (Ph.D.)
Dr. Els Van de Velde is Senior Expert in the field of "Competitiveness and Innovation". She has extensive experience in key enabling technologies, smart specialisation strategies, and value chain analyses. As a project manager she has led and participated in various European and regional projects for the European Commission, VLAIO, EWI, BELSPO, OECD (FR), and EPSRC (UK). Els has a PhD in Applied Economics, at the Ghent University. She holds a master’s degree in civil engineering. She has advanced skills in qualitative and quantitative analysis, evaluation of European policies, survey set-up and implementation, and business development.
She has extensive experience with innovation policies on national and European level, and with funding opportunities for R&D and innovation. As a project leader, she has led several studies related to key enabling technologies (KETs) such as the study “Access of SMEs to KETs technological centres”. She is involved in the “Monitoring Digital Transformation and Key Enabling Technologies” project, being responsible for the update of the KETs Observatory, KETs technological centres, Digital Transformation Monitor and Scoreboard, and the IPCEI Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) (DG GROW, 2018-2021). She has been involved in the Vanguard Initiative on 3D printing and currently acts as network manager of the Vanguard Nanotechnology Pilot. She offers expert support for the pilot action of DG Regio on Sustainable Buildings and High-Tech Farming, targeted at supporting the development of a cross-regional partnership for co-investment. She also acts as expert for the JRC in the study “S3 priorities meta-analysis and future mission-oriented research and innovation initiatives under Horizon Europe”.
