The interaction between the network of air connections at the airport of Schiphol, the business climate, and the economic development in the airport region
IDEA Consult analyses the interrelationships between the air connection network of Schiphol airport, the attractiveness of the region for the location of business, and the economic development of specific sectors, clusters and activities in the region. The study examines which sectors and activities mainly feed the airport which location factors are most important for these activities, and which air connections they need. This study is motivated from the growing importance of (air) connections for the competitive position in a network economy. A better understanding of these interrelations must enhance the creation of economic value in the clusters having a link with the airport. This research is part of a broader range of studies which must lead to a clear evaluation framework for spatial planning issues in the region and to the creation of a new élan for the airport.
